Day 3 on the road, Springfield, Mo to Tulsa, Ok (370km / 230 miles)

We started the day at 9 am for a 2 hour drive to Carthage, note that the signs for Route 66 is not great in the area so allow for some extra time to find your way. In Carthage, we stopped at the Civil war museum for a short visit. The museum is quite small but free so it is worth the visit and understand Missouri’s role in the civil war and the battle of Carthage.

Then on to Joplin and past Carterville, and a real life creation from Disney’s Cars.

Next stop Kansas, route 66 only runs a short stretch through Kansas and made a short stop at Galena to see the famous county jail, and then a lunch stop in Baxter Springs which is the biggest town in the county with 4,000 people.

After lunch we headed for Oklahoma, and the first stop was Commerce with two original gas stations and one of them with a diner inside.

Just before Afton is an original part of the 1922 the route, which is 3 km /2 miles long and mostly a dirt track, but you can imagine what it would have been like to drive it back in the day.
